CLUB HISTORY

The University of Sussex Rugby Club was established not long after the University of Sussex was founded in the 1960s. Originally, the club only consisted of the Men's squad, but the Women's side was established in the 1990s.

The club has been growing in numbers every year, with enthusiastic new players on both the Men's and Women's sides.  What was initially a single sports team with one 1st XV, eventually grew into an exceptional university rugby club that is firmly grounded in teamwork, friendship and mutual respect.

The club is comprised of many enthusiastic and dedicated team members, as well as several experienced coaches who all strive to work together to preserve the standards and traditions that make up University of Sussex RFC. The club also works closely with the University of Sussex Student's Union (USSU) to uphold the exemplarly principles and ethics of the University of Sussex.

The Men's and Women's sides have both been recipients of several awards incuding:

Committee of the Year (Men, 2014-15)

South Eastern 1A League Winners (Women, 2014-15; 2012-13)

BUCS Team of Year (Women, 2014-15)

Club of Year (Women, 2014-15)
