CHARITY

Sussex Rugby takes pride in giving back to the community. The club as a whole is actively involved with several charities and organises numerous charity events throughout the year. Both sides participate in the annual rainbow laces campaign for Varsity, which seeks to eradicate homophobia from sport. Keep an eye out for the rainbow laces on our boots! Notable events hosted by each side include the Men's karaoke night and the Women's Valentine's auction. The teams work together to support each other's charitable efforts and are looking to make an even bigger, more positive impact in the upcoming 2016/17 season.

Men's Charity

Men's rugby is a prominent force at the University of Sussex in regards to our fundraising. We are proud to have raised money for Galop (a LGBT anti-violence charity) through a karaoke night and auction, and the Royal British Legion as part of the mobilised fundraisers in the Poppy appeal. In the next year we intend to build upon our strong foundation and will continue to support many of these charities. However, our main charity this year will be the RFU's Injured Players Foundation who do such good work supporting injured players and also working to protect players from injury.

Women's Charity

In the 2014/15 season, the Women's side fundraised actively in order to send a team of our girls out to Uganda in June 2015, where we worked alongside the charity, Tag Rugby Trust, to coach tag rugby in schools for a week, culminating in a tag festival at the end of the week.  Our fundraising efforts for this programme included a naked calendar, Valentine’s auction, ‘Sussex has got Talent,’ St Patrick's Day Pub Crawl and multiple cake sales!

This 2016/17 season, the girls are supporting Mind and England Deaf Rugby Union.  We have held several charity fundraisers throughout the year, with our most successful efforts being through selling Rugby Naked Calendars and running the Brighton Half Marathon!
